Career
Since childhood, Sen had aspirations of becoming an actress. She grew up in Jyotish Roy Road, New Alipore, Kolkata, with her mother, and attended school at Vidya Bharati New Alipore near Mint. After completing her studies, she convinced her mother to accompany her to Mumbai, although she faced lack of encouragement from her family, except for her grandfather. Upon arriving in Mumbai, she began appearing in advertisements, including one for Coca-Cola alongside Aamir Khan.
Sen made her debut as a lead actress in the Telugu movie “Nee Thodu Kavali”. Her first Hindi film, “Hungama”, released in 2003, was a comedy in which she starred alongside Akshaye Khanna, Aftab Shivdasani, and Paresh Rawal.
Following her debut, she appeared in several big-budget movies such as “Dhoom” (2004), “Kyon Ki” (2005), “Garam Masala” (2005), and “Golmaal” (2006). She also had a cameo in the 2006 film “Dhoom 2” and starred in “Johnny Gaddaar” alongside newcomer Neil Nitin Mukesh. However, her career faced setbacks with box office disappointments like “De Taali” (2008), “Sankat City” (2009), and “Horn Ok Please” (2009).
In 2011, she appeared in the films “Thank You” and “Shagird”, both of which failed to perform well. In 2015, she participated in the reality show “Bigg Boss”. Additionally, Sen ventured into film production, producing the film “Budhia Singh – Born to Run”. For this venture, she changed her screen name from Rimi to her real name, Subhamitra Sen.
Sen also appeared as a celebrity contestant in the ninth season of the Indian reality TV show “Bigg Boss” in October 2015. Initially paired with Suyyash Rai, her pairing was later revised, and she entered the house with Rochelle Rao as her partner. She was evicted from the show after staying in the house for 7.5 weeks.
