Career
Rajit Kapur embarked on his acting journey at the age of 12 when he appeared in a children’s TV drama on Doordarshan. After a decade, while working as a stage manager, he landed his first acting role in the TV series “Ghar Jamai.”
In 1992, Kapur made his debut in the film “Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda,” directed by Shyam Benegal. Following this, he portrayed the famous Bengali detective Byomkesh Bakshi in the TV series of the same name, based on the stories by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. The show garnered immense popularity, marking Kapur’s breakthrough in the media industry.
Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Kapur appeared in several notable films such as “Mammo” (1994), “The Making of the Mahatma” (1996), and “Zubeidaa” (2001), all directed by Shyam Benegal. He also ventured into Marathi cinema with films like “Limited Manuski” (1995).
In 2009, Kapur starred in Deepti Naval’s film “Do Paise Ki Dhoop, Chaar Aane Ki Baarish,” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. The film was later released on Netflix in 2019. In 2022, he ventured into Punjabi cinema with the film “Birha – The Journey Back Home,” which received critical acclaim and won numerous awards at international film festivals.
In recent years, Kapur has continued to showcase his versatility by appearing in a variety of films and web series. His notable works include roles in “Uri: The Surgical Strike” (2019), “Rocket Boys” (2022), and the TV series “Bard of Blood” (2019).
