Career

Ayyub began his acting career in 2011 with Raj Kumar Gupta’s “No One Killed Jessica,” where he portrayed the real-life character of Manu Sharma, Jessica Lal’s murderer. The film received positive reviews, marking a successful debut for Ayyub.

His second release that year was “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan,” a romantic comedy, where he played a supporting role alongside Katrina Kaif and Imran Khan. This film also performed well at the box office. In 2012, Ayyub appeared in “Jannat 2,” a thriller, which became his fourth consecutive box office hit despite mixed critical reception.

The following year, he starred in Aanand L. Rai’s “Raanjhanaa,” a romantic drama, and Hansal Mehta’s “Shahid,” a biographical drama. Ayyub faced career struggles in 2014 and 2015 with several box office failures, including “Raja Natwarlal,” “All is Well,” and “Phantom.” However, he found success again with “Tanu Weds Manu: Returns” in 2015, which emerged as a huge commercial hit.

In 2017, Ayyub had his highest-grossing release with “Raees,” starring alongside Shah Rukh Khan. In 2018, Ayyub starred in “Thugs of Hindostan” and “Zero,” both of which were expensive films but failed to perform well at the box office.

In 2019, he appeared in “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi” and “Article 15,” both of which received positive reviews. “Manikarnika” was a modest commercial success, while “Article 15” performed well at the box office.
