Career

Meena began her acting career in 1982 as a child artist in the Tamil film “Nenjangal,” where she acted alongside Sivaji Ganesan. She subsequently appeared in several films as a child artist, including two movies with Rajinikanth, namely “Enkeyo Ketta Kural” and “Anbulla Rajinikanth.”

In 1990, she made her debut as a lead actress in Telugu cinema with the film “Navayugam” opposite Rajendra Prasad. The same year, she made her Tamil debut as a heroine in “Oru Pudhiya Kadhai.” Her breakthrough came with the Tamil film “En Rasavin Manasile” (1991), where she portrayed the character Solaiyamma opposite Rajkiran. The movie’s success led to her reprising the role in the Telugu remake “Moratodu Naa Mogudu” (1992).

Meena ventured into Malayalam cinema with the film “Santhwanam” (1991), where she played Suresh Gopi’s daughter. Her performance attracted more roles with senior Malayalam actors, and she expressed her desire to do more films in Malayalam.

In 1992, her Telugu film “Chanti” opposite Venkatesh garnered her critical acclaim and commercial success. She also made her Hindi debut with “Parda Hai Parda” opposite Chunky Pandey.

Throughout the 1990s, Meena starred in several successful films across languages, including “Sethupathi IPS” (1994) with Vijayakanth, “Veera” and “Muthu” (1995) with Rajinikanth, and “Avvai Shanmugi” (1996). She also became a popular pair with Venkatesh in Telugu cinema.

In 1997, Meena made her debut as a lead actress in Malayalam cinema with “Varnapakittu,” where she was paired opposite Mohanlal. This marked the beginning of a successful on-screen partnership, leading to several more collaborations.

Her career continued to flourish in the 2000s with acclaimed performances in films like “Rhythm” (2000), “Drishyam” (2013), and “Balyakalasakhi.” She also returned to Tamil cinema with “Annaatthe” (2021) alongside Rajinikanth.
