Career

Maryam Zakaria started her career in Sweden, where she worked as a model, dance teacher, and choreographer. She also established the first Bollywood dance school in Sweden, called the Indisk Dans Studio, where she taught the dance styles seen in Bollywood cinema. In 2009, she decided to pursue her dream of working in Bollywood and moved to Mumbai, India.

Upon arriving in Mumbai, Zakaria began her Bollywood career as a model, featuring in various television commercials, including notable ones for Set Wet, Layz, and Coke. She gained attention after appearing in a Coca-Cola advertisement alongside Imran Khan.

Her breakthrough in Indian cinema came when Tamil film director Sundar C. noticed her dance video on YouTube and signed her for an item number in his film “Nagaram” (2010). Zakaria’s performance in the hit song “Diyalo Diyala” from the Telugu film “100% Love” further propelled her career.

She went on to appear in several Telugu films, including “Madatha Kaja” (2011), where she played one of the female lead characters. Her popularity soared with her item number “Dilli Ki Billi” in the Hindi film “Sadda Adda” (2012).

Zakaria gained widespread recognition for her role as Farah in the Saif Ali Khan-starrer “Agent Vinod,” where she performed a mujra in the song “Dil Mera Muft Ka” alongside Kareena Kapoor.

In 2012, she signed for Indra Kumar’s “Grand Masti” as the leading actress opposite Aftab Shivdasani. The film, released in 2013, became the highest-grossing Bollywood film with an A (Adults Only) certificate in India. On the personal front, Zakaria married choreographer Arvind Thakur in 2012, and the couple welcomed their son, Aryan Thakur, in 2013.
