Career
In 2009, Mame Khan made his singing debut in Bollywood alongside Shankar Mahadevan for the film “Luck By Chance.” However, his breakthrough came in 2012 when he gained attention for his appearance on an episode of Coke Studio @ MTV, Season 2. He collaborated with music director Amit Trivedi on the song “Chaudhary,” which catapulted him into the spotlight.
Additionally, he performed the title “Badri Badariya” at Coke Studio @ MTV, collaborating with singer Mili Nair. Khan’s talent was further showcased in Bollywood movies such as “Mirzya,” “I Am,” “No One Killed Jessica,” and “Sonchiriya.” He even lent his voice to a Hindi song in the Malayalam film “Monsoon Mangoes.”
In October 2015, Khan released his debut album, “Mame Khan’s Desert Sessions,” which was crowd-funded. Following this, he sang the national anthem for the 2015 Pro Kabaddi League season, televised by Hotstar and Star Sports. In December 2016, he released the single “Sanu Ik Pal Chain Na Ave,” blending Punjabi and Rajasthani folk music.
A year later, he collaborated with composer duo Salim–Sulaiman for the song “Yaari” as part of McDowell’s No.1 Yaari Jam. Khan’s versatile voice was also heard in television commercials for brands like Samsung and Tanishq. Additionally, he became the voice for the nutrition campaign “Mhari Champion” by ICDS and the Government of Rajasthan.
Khan’s involvement extended beyond Bollywood and commercial ventures. He joined Shankar Mahadevan’s folk project titled “My Country, My Music” and served as the lead vocalist for Roysten Abel’s show, “The Manganiyar Seduction,” which has been touring globally since 2006.
He showcased his talent at various festivals across India, including the NH7 Weekender, Mood Indigo, Repertwahr Festival, Rajasthan Partnership Summit, and Sahitya Aaj Tak. In June 2018, he performed at Mumbai’s National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), collaborating with Kaushiki Chakraborty. Notably, Khan became the first folk singer to perform the opening act at NMACC’s Studio Theatre in 2023.
