Early Life

Kajal Aggarwal, born and raised in a Punjabi family with ties to Amritsar, grew up in Bombay, now known as Mumbai. Her father, Vinay Aggarwal, works in the textile industry, while her mother, Suman Aggarwal, is a confectioner and oversees Kajal’s business matters. Kajal’s younger sister, Nisha Aggarwal, is an actress in Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam cinema.

Kajal attended St. Anne’s High School in Fort, Mumbai, and completed her pre-university education at Jai Hind College. For her higher education, she pursued mass media, focusing on marketing and advertising at Kishinchand Chellaram College. Although she had aspirations for an MBA, in 2012, she mentioned her plans to achieve a post-graduation degree soon.

Career

Kajal Aggarwal entered the film scene in 2004 with a minor role in the Bollywood movie “Kyun! Ho Gaya Na…”. Her journey continued as she stepped into Telugu cinema with Teja’s “Lakshmi Kalyanam” in 2007, but the film didn’t do well at the box office. However, the same year, her role in Krishna Vamsi’s “Chandamama” garnered positive reviews, marking her first significant success.

In 2008, Kajal ventured into Tamil cinema with “Pazhani” and made a guest appearance in Venkat Prabhu’s “Saroja.” While “Saroja” gained both commercial and critical acclaim, it didn’t significantly boost her career. Her Telugu releases, “Pourudu” and “Aatadista,” though not praised by critics, were box office successes.

The turning point in Kajal’s career came in 2009 with the Tamil film “Modhi Vilayadu” and the Telugu historical drama “Magadheera,” directed by S. S. Rajamouli. “Magadheera” became the highest-grossing Telugu film at the time, propelling Kajal to stardom. Her subsequent releases, “Ganesh Just Ganesh” and “Arya 2,” had mixed reviews, but her performance received positive feedback.

In 2010, Kajal starred in the romantic comedy “Darling” alongside Prabhas, earning her a Filmfare nomination. She also appeared in the Tamil thriller “Naan Mahaan Alla” and the romantic comedy “Brindavanam,” both commercially successful and praised by critics.

The following year, she teamed up with Prabhas again in the hit film “Mr. Perfect” and starred in “Veera” with Ravi Teja. Kajal made her Bollywood comeback in 2011 with “Singham” opposite Ajay Devgn, which was a box office hit despite mixed reviews.

Concluding 2011 with the Telugu film “Dhada,” opposite Naga Chaitanya, Kajal faced a setback as the film didn’t perform well commercially.

Kajal Aggarwal began 2012 with a notable appearance in the Telugu film “Businessman,” starring alongside Mahesh Babu and directed by Puri Jagannadh. Despite her limited role, the film received positive reviews and achieved commercial success.

Later that year, Kajal made a comeback to Tamil cinema with two action-packed movies. The first was “Maattrraan,” directed by K. V. Anand, where she played the role of a foreign language translator named Anjali. Her performance was appreciated, adding a pleasant touch to the film. The second was “Thuppakki,” directed by A. R. Murugadoss, where Kajal portrayed a boxer. The film garnered positive reviews and emerged as a major commercial success.

Expressing her preference for the Telugu film industry, Kajal mentioned that women are respected more there compared to the Tamil film industry, which tends to focus mainly on the male lead.

In early 2013, Kajal starred in V. V. Vinayak’s action film “Naayak” opposite Ram Charan Teja, which received positive reviews and achieved significant commercial success. She also made her presence felt in the Hindi film industry with the critically acclaimed heist drama “Special 26,” directed by Neeraj Pandey.

Continuing her successful run, Kajal appeared in Srinu Vaitla’s “Baadshah” and “All in All Azhagu Raja” in 2013. While “Baadshah” received appreciation for her performance, “All in All Azhagu Raja” faced negative reviews.

Moving to 2014, Kajal featured in various films, including the masala film “Jilla” and Krishna Vamsi’s family drama “Govindudu Andarivadele,” both contributing to her growing success.

The following years saw Kajal Aggarwal continuing to shine in the Telugu action film “Temper” and two Tamil films, “Maari” and “Paayum Puli,” receiving mixed reviews. Despite the ups and downs, Kajal maintained her presence in the industry.

In 2016, she appeared in two high-profile Telugu films, “Sardaar Gabbar Singh” and “Brahmotsavam.” While the former received mixed reactions, the latter faced criticism. Kajal also made her Bollywood debut with “Do Lafzon Ki Kahani.”

Her subsequent projects included roles in various Telugu and Tamil films like “Khaidi No. 150,” “Vivegam,” and “Mersal,” all contributing to her diverse portfolio.

In recent years, Kajal Aggarwal has been part of multiple projects, with releases such as “Mosagallu,” “Mumbai Saga,” and “Hey Sinamika.” Upcoming films like “Bhagavanth Kesari” and “Indian 2” showcase her ongoing commitment to the world of cinema.
