Career

After completing college, Jayaram joined Kalabhavan, a professional mimicry troupe in Kochi. At the age of 22, he was introduced to the world of cinema by scriptwriter and filmmaker Padmarajan. Jayaram’s acting career kicked off with Padmarajan’s film “Aparan” in 1988, followed by roles in “Moonnam Pakkam” (1988) and “Innale” (1989). Padmarajan became his mentor until his passing in 1991.

Jayaram rose to stardom in the Malayalam film industry with “Meleparambil Aanveedu” (1993), directed by Rajasenan. His on-screen chemistry with Shobana in films like “Innale,” “Meleparambil Aanveedu,” and “Dhwani” garnered praise.

During the late 1980s and early 1990s, Jayaram collaborated with director Kamal in films such as “Pradeshika Varthakal” (1989) and “Peruvannapurathe Visheshangal” (1989). He also worked with his wife Parvathy in several films written by Ranjith, including “Shubha Yathra” (1990).

Jayaram’s association with director Sathyan Anthikkad resulted in numerous successful films, starting with “Ponmuttayidunna Tharavu” (1988) and extending to films like “Thooval Kottaram” (1996) and “Manassinakkare” (2003).

He played significant roles alongside other prominent actors like Mammootty and Mohanlal in films such as “Dhruvam” (1993) and “Advaitham” (1991), respectively. Collaborations with director Rajasenan yielded successful films like “Kadinjool Kalyanam” (1991) and “CID Unnikrishnan B.A., B.Ed.” (1994), contributing to Jayaram’s popularity.

Jayaram also ventured into Tamil cinema with roles in films like “Thenali” and “Panchathanthiram,” where he worked alongside Kamal Haasan. In the mid-2000s, Jayaram continued to feature in successful Malayalam films like “Manassinakkare” (2003) and “Njaan Salperu Raman Kutty” (2004). His performance in “Veruthe Oru Bharya” (2008) marked a comeback for him after a series of commercial flops.

He continued to deliver successful performances in films like “Bhagyadevatha” (2009) and “Happy Husbands” (2010).
