Early Life

Ileana D’Cruz was born on 1 November 1987 in Mahim, Bombay (now Mumbai). Her father is Catholic, and her mother is Muslim. Despite her diverse background, Ileana identifies as an atheist. When she was 10 years old, her family moved to Parra, Goa.

Ileana’s journey into the entertainment industry began with modeling. Her first modeling portfolio in January 2003 didn’t go as planned, but she persisted. The following year, her second portfolio opened doors to advertisements for brands like Electrolux, Emami Talc, and Fair & Lovely. The Fair & Lovely ad, directed by Rakesh Roshan, brought her exposure and led to offers for acting in feature films.

In 2014, Ileana acquired Portuguese nationality. In a 2017 interview, she mentioned that Portugal is part of her ancestry, highlighting her connection to the country.

She was previously in a relationship with Australian photographer Andrew Kneebone, and there were rumors of their marriage. However, in August 2019, Indian media reported their breakup.

In May 2023, Ileana D’Cruz married Michael Dolan, and in August of the same year, they welcomed their first child, a son. This marked a new chapter in Ileana’s life, as she embraced motherhood with her husband Michael.

Career

In 2005, Ileana D’Cruz got a chance to audition for a movie directed by Teja, but unfortunately, the project got canceled. Her debut in feature films happened with the Telugu romance film “Devadasu” in 2006, directed by Y. V. S. Chowdary. Before starting work on the film, she took acting classes with Aruna Bhikshu. Although she felt pressured during filming and even considered stopping, her mother’s encouragement convinced her to continue. “Devadasu” turned out to be a big hit. She also appeared in the successful gangster film “Pokiri,” playing the role of an aerobics teacher. Her debut in Tamil cinema was with the film “Kedi” in 2006, starring alongside Tamannaah Bhatia and Ravi Krishna.

From 2007 to 2011, Ileana became established and gained recognition in Telugu cinema. In 2008, she played the lead role in the action film “Jalsa,” receiving positive reviews for her stylish and stunning appearance. She won the Santosham Award and the South Scope Style Award for her performance. Another successful film during this period was “Kick,” declared a box office success and one of the highest-grossing films of the year.

In 2011, Ileana had two releases. The first was “Shakthi,” a socio-fantasy film, and the second was “Nenu Naa Rakshasi,” her second collaboration with Puri Jagannadh. Although the latter was not a commercial success, Ileana’s performance received positive reviews, with critics praising her expressions and on-screen presence.

In early 2012, Ileana D’Cruz starred in the Tamil film Nanban, directed by S. Shankar, which was a remake of the Hindi film 3 Idiots. The film received positive reviews from critics and was a major success at the box office. Her next release was the action comedy Julayi, directed by Trivikram Srinivas, which also received positive reviews and became a significant hit in Telugu. She then appeared in Puri Jagannadh’s comedy Devudu Chesina Manushulu, playing the role of a taxi driver, but the film received mixed reviews and did not perform well commercially.

D’Cruz made her Hindi debut with Anurag Basu’s Barfi! opposite Ranbir Kapoor & Priyanka Chopra in 2012. Following Barfi!, she appeared in the Phata Poster Nikhla Hero with Shahid Kapoor, Padmini Kolhapure, Katrina Kaif, Nargis Fakhri, Sanjay Mishra & Tinnu Anand in 2013 and in Main Tera Hero alongside Varun Dhawan, Nargis Fakhri, Evelyn Sharma, Arunoday Singh, Anupam Kher, Rajpal Yadav, Raju Kher & Saurabh Shukla in 2014. She also appeared in Saif Ali Khan’s production Happy Ending with Kalki Koechlin, Govinda, Ranvir Shorey, Kareena Kapoor and Prity Zinta.

After a break, D’Cruz returned with Akshay Kumar‘s Rustom in 2016, which became one of the highest-grossing Indian films of the year. In 2017, she starred in Mubarakan alongside Neha Sharma, Anil Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Athiya Shetty, Karan Kundrra, Rahul Dev, Ratna Pathak Shah, Sanjay Kapoor, Vineet Kumar Singh & Jassie Gill and in Baadshaho with Emran Hashmi, Ajay Devgan, Esha Gupta, Sunny Leone, Sharad Kelkar, Vidyut Jammwal.

In 2018, Ileana D’Cruz starred in the film Raid, which received positive reviews from both critics and audiences. After a six-year break, she signed a Telugu film titled Amar Akbar Anthony, co-starring with Ravi Teja.

Moving on to 2019, Ileana appeared in the comedy film Pagalpanti, with Urvashi Rautela, Kriti Kharbanda, Pulkit Samrat, Anil Kapoor, John Abraham, Arshad Warsi & Saurabh Shukla & directed by Anees Bazmee. In 2021, she played the role of a journalist in The Big Bull, a biographical crime film alongside Abhishek Bachchan.
