Career
Fatima Sana Shaikh began her acting journey as a child artist, appearing in movies like “Chachi 420” and “One 2 Ka 4.” Years later, she gained recognition for her role as Zoya in the Indian drama film “Tahaan.” The film received acclaim and even won “The German Star of India award” at the “Bollywood and Beyond” festival in Stuttgart, Germany in 2009.
Shaikh’s breakthrough came when she was selected for Nitesh Tiwari’s biographical sports film “Dangal.” In the movie, she portrayed the character of Geeta Phogat. To prepare for her role, Shaikh immersed herself in understanding wrestling, studying the movements and body language of wrestlers. Alongside her co-star Sanya Malhotra, who also underwent extensive auditions and training, Shaikh delivered a remarkable performance. “Dangal” released in 2016 and received widespread critical acclaim, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film ever.
Following the success of “Dangal,” Shaikh appeared as Zafira Baig, a warrior-archer Thug, in the epic action-adventure film “Thugs of Hindostan.” She then secured a role in the Hindi remake of the Tamil movie “Aruvi,” produced by Applause Entertainment.
Shaikh’s upcoming projects include “Sam Bahadur,” where she will portray Indira Gandhi alongside Vicky Kaushal and Sanya Malhotra. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the film is based on the biography of Sam Manekshaw.
