Career

In 1993, Dane moved to Los Angeles, where he landed small roles in TV series like Saved by the Bell, The Wonder Years, Roseanne, and Married… with Children. His breakthrough came in 2000 with a recurring role in Gideon’s Crossing, followed by a two-season stint as Jason Dean in Charmed. During this time, he also appeared in TV movies like Serving in Silence and Helter Skelter.

Dane’s first major feature film appearance was in The Basket. He continued to appear in films such as Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane, Sol Goode, Feast, and X-Men: The Last Stand. In 2005, he guest-starred as Dr. Mark Sloan in Grey’s Anatomy, eventually becoming a regular cast member from season three onwards. His iconic entrance in season three, clad only in a strategically placed towel, became a memorable moment for fans.

After leaving Grey’s Anatomy at the end of season eight, Dane made a brief return in the first two episodes of season nine. In 2021, he made a surprise reappearance on the show, nine years after his character’s departure.

Dane starred in the A&E television film Wedding Wars in December 2006, alongside John Stamos. He also appeared in the 2010 romantic comedy Valentine’s Day, directed by Garry Marshall. In October 2012, Dane joined the main cast of the TNT drama series The Last Ship, produced by Michael Bay. He also served as a producer on the show.

In 2023, Dane discussed his experience on the show Euphoria, where he had to wear a prosthetic penis for certain scenes. He described the scenes as challenging and intense to shoot.
