Career

Diana Penty began her modeling career in 2005 after sending her photographs to Elite Models India. She made her runway debut at the Indo-Italian Festival in 2005 and modeled for various Indian designers such as Wendell Rodricks and Rohit Bal. By 2007, she had established herself as a successful model, featuring in print campaigns for prominent brands and gracing the covers of Indian fashion magazines.

In 2008 to 2010, Penty ventured into the international modeling circuit, participating in fashion weeks in Paris and New York. During this time, she gained recognition for her versatility and appeal in both Indian and international markets.

In 2011, Penty was slated to make her Bollywood debut in Imtiaz Ali’s “Rockstar” opposite Ranbir Kapoor. However, she turned down the role due to her modeling commitments and was replaced by Nargis Fakhri. Instead, she chose to debut in Homi Adajania’s “Cocktail” (2012) at Ali’s suggestion. The film, starring Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone, received mixed to positive reviews, with Penty’s portrayal of Meera earning praise from critics.

After a four-year hiatus, Penty returned to the screen in 2016 with “Happy Bhag Jayegi.” She played the titular character, a runaway bride who ends up in Pakistan by mistake, leading to comedic misadventures.

In 2017, Penty appeared in “Lucknow Central” as Gayatri Kashyap, an NGO worker supporting a band formed by prison inmates. Her role was noted for its portrayal of a strong, diligent character.

Penty had two releases in 2018. In “Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran,” she portrayed Captain Ambalika Bandyopadhyay, garnering praise for her portrayal of a no-nonsense character. Additionally, she reprised her role as Happy in “Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi,” though the film underperformed compared to its predecessor.

In 2019, Diana Penty made a special appearance in a promotional music video alongside singer Badshah and actors Suniel Shetty and Raveena Tandon for the song “Shehar Ki Ladki,” a remake for the film Khandaani Shafakhana.

In 2021, she portrayed Ira Sharma Sehgal, a public service volunteer with conflicting ideologies with her husband, in the romantic drama “Shiddat,” directed by Kunal Deshmukh.

In 2022, Penty made her Malayalam film debut in “Salute” alongside Dulquer Salmaan, playing the role of Dia, Salmaan’s love interest. However, her performance received criticism for having little impact in a film where female characters had minimal contribution.

Later in 2022, she appeared opposite Akshay Kumar as Naina in Raj Mehta’s “Selfiee.” While her role didn’t offer much depth, Penty’s understated portrayal was praised.
