Career
Cyrus Broacha began his career in entertainment at a young age. His first venture into professional acting was in 1985 with the play “Brighton Beach Memoirs,” directed by Pearl Padamsee. At just 15 years old, he appeared in his debut Hindi film “Jalwa” in 1987. Alongside acting, he also ventured into radio as a host for shows like the Dial-In Show starting in 1993. After completing his education, Broacha pursued further training at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York City, focusing on acting for theatre.
His television career took off when he joined MTV, hosting several shows over the years. One of his notable successes was “MTV Bakra,” a candid-camera show that ran for eight years. He also starred in the Indian adaptation of the popular American sitcom “Friends,” known as “Hello Friends,” portraying a character inspired by Chandler Bing.
Broacha extended his influence beyond entertainment. He spearheaded India’s “Rock the Vote” campaign and represented MTV at the UNAIDS conference in Hanover, Germany. His involvement in global discussions included moderating the Indian segment of “Be Heard – A Global Discussion With Colin Powell” in February 2002.
He ventured into reality TV, participating in shows like “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa,” India’s version of “Dancing with the Stars,” and “Fear Factor – Khatron Ke Khiladi Level 3” on Colors TV. As an actor, Broacha appeared in various films such as “99,” “Little Zizou,” “Fruit and Nut,” “Mumbai Chakachak,” “The Shaukeens,” and “Roy.”
Broacha also ventured into writing. In January 2010, he released his book “Karl, Aaj aur Kal,” a semi-autobiographical comedy centered on celebrities, Bollywood, and politics. This was followed by another book in 2011 titled “The Average Indian Male,” which offers insights into the common Indian man, often referred to as the “aam aadmi.”
In 2015, Broacha embarked on podcasting with “Cyrus Says,” later known as “C& Bull,” produced by the IVM network. The podcast covers a wide range of topics including life in urban India, politics, sports, civic sense, and current affairs. Recently, he participated in the second season of Bigg Boss OTT in June 2023, continuing to diversify his contributions to Indian entertainment and media.
