Career

She started her journey into the entertainment industry while still in college, stepping into the world of modeling. Her first gig was with Versace in Los Angeles. However, pursuing acting was her real passion. Despite her strong desire, her family was initially against it. Bindu faced significant opposition from her father, who didn’t speak to her for eight months, and her mother, who was also upset by the idea.

In her pursuit of acting, Bindu met a renowned celebrity photographer named Venket Ram in Chennai. He agreed to do a portfolio shoot for her and became a significant mentor figure. Bindu credited him as being “amazingly helpful” and referred to him as “the closest to a godfather I have in tinsel town.” With Venket Ram’s guidance, Bindu ventured further into modeling and appeared in television ads.

Her breakthrough came when she landed a role in a Tata Gold Tanishq advertisement, which led to an audition for noted Telugu director Sekhar Kammula’s production, Avakai Biryani (2008). Simultaneously, she secured a supporting role in Cheran’s Tamil romantic drama film Pokkisham (2009). Another notable project from 2009 was Bumper Offer, opposite Sairam Shankar, produced by renowned director Puri Jagannadh.

In 2010, Bindu’s acting career gained momentum with her appearance in Om Shanti, which boasted an ensemble cast. She followed this up with Rama Rama Krishna Krishna (2010), working alongside Ram and Arjun under producer Dil Raju. Later, she was cast by director Gautham Vasudev Menon for his production Veppam (2011), where she portrayed the role of a sex worker. While the film received mixed reviews, Bindu’s performance was praised by critics.

After Veppam, Bindu shifted her focus primarily to the Tamil film industry, where she received numerous offers. She found success with releases like Kazhugu (2012), Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga (2013), Desingu Raja (2013), and Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam (2013), all of which were commercially successful and significantly impacted her career.

In 2014, Bindu appeared in Chimbu Deven’s Oru Kanniyum Moonu Kalavaniyum, portraying the protagonist’s friend. She opted for this role over the lover’s role, believing it offered more scope for acting. The following year, she enjoyed box office success with Tamizhuku En Ondrai Azhuthavum, though Savaale Samaali did not perform as well. She was then cast by Pandiraj for the second time in Suriya’s home production, Pasanga 2 (2015), where she portrayed the mother of a young child.

Outside of films, Bindu participated in the Tamil reality show, Bigg Boss, in 2017, finishing in fifth place. Her appearance on the show increased her visibility and led to more opportunities in commercials, films, and promotional events.

In 2022, she made headlines by participating in the digital version of Bigg Boss Telugu, titled Bigg Boss Non-Stop, where she emerged as the title winner, making history as the first female winner of the Bigg Boss Telugu franchise.
