In his early days as an actor in Bombay (now Mumbai), Anupam Kher faced hardships, even sleeping on a railway platform for a month.
His acting journey kicked off in 1984 with the movie “Saaransh,” directed by Mahesh Bhatt. In this film, Kher portrayed the role of a 65-year-old retired teacher who loses his son. Despite being just 29 at the time, Kher’s portrayal earned him widespread praise and several awards.
Over the next few years, Kher appeared in various films, with mixed success. However, his role as Shyam Lal in “Tezaab” (1988) gained him significant acclaim. This was followed by his performance in “Vijay,” which despite the film’s reception, earned Kher a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor.
