Career

As a child, Ankur Warikoo had a clear plan for his future: get a PhD in the US, join NASA, and become the first man on Mars. Despite our financial struggles, my parents prioritized education for my sister and me, hoping we would uplift our family’s circumstances.

In 2002, Ankur Warikoo secured a full scholarship for a PhD program in Physics at a top US university, thanks to my hard work and my father’s loan for the airfare. However, upon arriving in the US, he realized something was missing from his life, prompting him to return to India at the age of 24, despite having no plan, savings, or prospects awaiting him.

At 24, Ankur embarked on a new journey, enrolling in an MBA program at ISB. This decision proved pivotal, as it opened doors to opportunities that transformed his life. After completing his MBA, he joined Kearney as a management consultant, where he honed his business skills for three years.

Alongside his job, he ventured into entrepreneurship, co-founding SecondShaadi.com with fellow ISB alumni. This venture marked the beginning of his entrepreneurial journey, leading to the establishment of several successful websites, including Gaadi.com, which was later acquired by goibibo.com.

In 2011, Ankur became the founding CEO of Groupon’s India business, where he gained invaluable experience in building and managing a startup. Over the next four years, he navigated the challenges of entrepreneurship, learning valuable lessons about leadership, teamwork, and resilience.

In 2015, he took a bold step with the core management team of Groupon India, purchasing the business and rebranding it as nearbuy. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in his entrepreneurial career, supported by funding from Sequoia.

Throughout his journey, Ankur embraced the philosophy of “DO EPIC SHIT,” emphasizing action, purpose, and enjoyment in every endeavor. He discovered his passion for public speaking, storytelling, and creating awareness, which led him to launch the “Warikoo Wednesdays” video series on LinkedIn, sharing insights from his experiences as a founder and CEO.

Today, he continues to advocate for awareness, believing that informed choices lead to fulfilling lives. His life motto remains “DO EPIC SHIT,” guiding him to tackle challenges with gusto and make a meaningful impact in the world.
