Career
Aftab Shivdasani began his career in showbiz at a tender age, being selected as the Farex baby for a baby food brand advertisement when he was just 14 months old. This kickstarted his journey in the entertainment industry, and he appeared in numerous television commercials thereafter.
His Bollywood debut as a child actor came in the iconic film “Mr. India” in 1987, followed by roles in movies like “Awwal Number,” “Shahenshah,” “ChaalBaaz,” and “Insaniyat.” Notably, he portrayed the childhood version of Inspector Vijaykumar Srivastav in the 1988 film “Shahenshah,” a role later taken over by Amitabh Bachchan.
In 1999, Shivdasani transitioned into adult roles, securing a lead role in Ram Gopal Varma’s film “Mast” opposite Urmila Matondkar. Despite still being a student at H.R. College, he took on this significant opportunity. While “Mast” did not fare well at the box office, Shivdasani’s performance earned him critical acclaim and awards for Best Male Debut.
In 2001, he made a comeback with Vikram Bhatt’s “Kasoor,” where he played a negative role, earning widespread recognition and nominations for his portrayal. He followed this success with “Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega” and “Pyaar Ishq Aur Mohabbat” in the same year, receiving praise for his performances despite the films’ mixed receptions.
The years 2002 and 2003 saw a mixed bag for Shivdasani, with hits like “Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai” and “Hungama,” alongside disappointments such as “Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani” and “Darna Mana Hai.” However, his acting skills continued to gain appreciation, especially in diverse roles.
In 2004, Shivdasani appeared in successful films like “Masti” and “Shukriya: Till Death Do Us Apart,” solidifying his presence in Bollywood. Despite facing setbacks with films like “Mr Ya Miss” and “Koi Aap Sa” in 2005, he persevered.
His ventures into production began with “Aao Wish Karein” in 2009, marking the inception of his production company, Rising Sun Entertainment. He continued to act in films like “Acid Factory” and “Bin Bulaye Baraati” while expanding his repertoire.
In the subsequent years, Shivdasani found success with films like “1920: The Evil Returns” and “Grand Masti,” the latter being a significant box office hit. He also ventured into web series with “Poison 2” and gained further acclaim with roles in projects like “Special Ops 1.5: The Himmat Story.” In 2021, he starred in the commercially successful Kannada movie “Kotigobba 3” and received praise for his role as a RAW officer in “Special Ops 1.5: The Himmat Story.”
