Career

Kashyap started her career as a counselor at Daewoo Motors but left after a year. She then worked as a legal counselor at an NGO. In the early 2000s, Kashyap pursued a diploma in journalism from Jamia Millia Islamia. After completing her diploma, she joined Doordarshan, where she initially worked on the news-desk of an investigative show called Aankhon Dekhi. Later, she moved to Zee News but was primarily assigned producing roles instead of her desired anchor position. Despite this, she occasionally got the chance to anchor special features.

In 2007, Kashyap joined News 24, where she began moderating an evening debate show, marking her mainstream anchoring debut. She later moved to Star News but soon after, the channel was shut down. Following her former boss from News 24 to Aaj Tak in late 2012.

Kashyap is known for her vocal opposition to reservations and affirmative action in India, citing her Brahminical upbringing and the social tensions arising from the Mandal Commission recommendations as influencing factors.

Her journalism has faced criticism, particularly for allegedly propagating Hindutva-centered ideologies and exhibiting bias in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She was among the few reporters granted an interview with Narendra Modi before the 2019 National Elections, during which she reportedly refrained from asking challenging questions.

During her coverage of the 2019 Supreme Court proceedings on the Ayodhya title dispute, Kashyap’s reporting was criticized for its pro-Hindutva stance, with some accusing her of framing the narrative in favor of the Hindu community.

In a controversial incident while reporting on the 2019 Bihar encephalitis outbreak, Kashyap entered a neonatal ICU and confronted an on-duty pediatrician, drawing widespread criticism for her behavior. The Indian Medical Association filed a complaint against her for allegedly endangering children’s lives for publicity.
