Mohanlal embarked on his acting journey in 1978 with the film “Thiranottam,” a project produced and created by Mohanlal and his group of friends. He portrayed Kuttappan, a mentally disabled servant, but due to censorship issues, the film faced delays and wasn’t released until 25 years later.
In 1980, Mohanlal secured the lead antagonist role in “Manjil Virinja Pookkal,” marking his entry into mainstream cinema. His portrayal garnered widespread acclaim. Subsequently, he appeared in various negative roles in films like “Sandhyakku Virinja Poovu” and “Kuyiline Thedi.”
By 1983, Mohanlal had amassed a significant number of film credits, predominantly as a villain. However, films such as “Ivide Thudangunnu” and “Sreekrishna Parunthu” shifted his image, presenting him as a protagonist with a good heart.
In 1984, he delved into comedy with “Poochakkoru Mookkuthi,” marking the beginning of a successful partnership with director Priyadarshan. Their collaboration spanned over 44 films, showcasing Mohanlal’s versatility.
